Once you’ve found the iTunes Backup folder on your computer, you need to find your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch UDID.
You should now have copies of all your existing iTunes backups on your computer Desktop. If you don’t, use the previous two steps to do so.
- (Windows 8) Search -> type %appdata% (with the percents) and press return.
Save and read your iPhone SMSs.
Click OK to close iTunes Preferences.
Open Finder, (hold the option key on OSX Lion or higher), and select Library from the Go menu. This will open the Application Support folder, and from there, go to MobileSync -> Backup. In the backup folder, there will be one or more folders named by your devices' unique identifiers.
If you think the operating system installation has crashed, you can hard reset your computer by pressing and holding the Power button. Your Mac will shut down, but be aware you may no longer be able to boot your operating system normally any more.
